Fan Connections

On 9/17/03 the four 80 mm case fans in the front and the back were replaced with 80 mm Papst fans, mainly to make the PC even quieter: Variofan 8412NGMLV: 80x80x25mm, 10-19 db(A), 1.1-1.5 W, 15.9-26.5 cfm.

The 4 fans were connected to the main board “CHA_FAN” header using power Y-cables and fan adapter cables. The purple temperature sensor leads were left unconnected, so that the fans can reach maximum speed.

The case fans were installed using a special fan grommet made from silica gel and rubber fan fasteners for vibration insulation. The grommet replaces the 4 rubber rings that are included with the rubber fan fasteners.


On 6/5/2005 the two 80 mm Papst fans in the rear were replaced with one 120 mm fan which provides a speed signal to the BIOS.

The top case fan (Super Flower DC 12V, 0.14A, sleeve bearing, yellow, green, red, blue LEDs) was connected to one of the “fan only” connectors of the power supply.

Fan Power Consumption

The main board documentation states: “The fan connectors support cooling fans of 350mA~740mA (8.88 W max) or a total of 1A~2.22A (26.64W max) at +12V.”
